Jeff Baker

As a leader of the College’s preservation efforts since 2007, Baker has been instrumental in restoring Wright's vision, overseeing the meticulous refurbishment of iconic structures such as the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel, the planetarium within the Polk Science Building, and the pioneering Water Dome, based on Wright's original design. Baker and his firm have also been pivotal in constructing new buildings on FSC’s campus, adhering to Wright's visionary principles.

Architectural History I

It covers significant monuments and urban developments, concluding with studies of Christian Europe and the Islamic world. The course also introduces methodologies for analyzing architecture, highlighting achievements in China, Mesopotamia, Persia, and other civilizations with notable architectural contributions.

Construction Materials I

Construction Materials I at Florida Southern College provides a thorough introduction to building materials, focusing on masonry and wood construction. The course examines their properties, assembly techniques, and environmental interactions, while comparing historical and contemporary uses. Students also learn graphic representation techniques and gain hands-on experience in the construction lab with wood and masonry assemblies, exploring their historical, current, and future applications.
Fundamental Design I

Fundamental Design I

Fundamental Design I at Florida Southern College provides an introduction to architectural drawing and model studies, blending historical and modern practices. The course focuses on hand drafting, covering layout, graphic conventions and techniques, and progresses from basic exercises to complex tasks. Students also learn computer-based modeling and CNC processes through lectures, studio work, and hands-on experience in the automative fabrication lab.
Architectural Project Management

Architectural Project Management

Architectural Project Management at Florida Southern College offers a comprehensive overview of an architect's responsibilities during the construction administration phase. The course covers agreements between owners, architects, and constructors, as well as procurement options, cost management, and project startup procedures. Students gain practical experience with project submittals, scheduling, documentation, and industry-standard construction management software.

Curriculum

In accordance with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Standard, a minimum of 150 credit hours is necessary to complete the requirements for a five­ year Bachelor of Architecture degree, which also meets the criteria to enable graduates to take the NCARB-administered Architect Registration Examination (ARE) after graduation once NCARB approved post-graduate work experience credit hours have been met. The 150 credit hours are grouped into six subject areas as follows:
