Avalon Groves Crate Labels
Ephemera are "printed documents, created for a specific, limited purpose, and generally designed to be discarded after use." Crate labels were printed and adhered to boxes of citrus fruit from the 1880’s to the 1970’s. Labels came in several sizes to fit on orange, grapefruit, and tangerine boxes. Some groves identified the grade of the fruit by the color of the label, but all distributors used picturesque and colorful labels to attract buyers attention.
The Avalon Orange Groves were planted and came into production. The Groves produced oranges, and the Company marketed the fruit under these three labels.
