Meet Brianna Chicas
Finding Purpose and Flexibility in FSC’s MSIO Program
Oct 27, 2025
For Brianna Chicas, a current student in Florida Southern College’s Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (MSIO) program, pursuing graduate education is all about becoming a well-prepared, well-rounded professional.
“I am hoping to gain more knowledge and experience through an internship and research regarding many aspects within the field of I-O psychology,” she explains. “My career aspirations are to become a professor, improve inclusion and diversity, and improve the workplace for all employees.”
Brianna’s decision to choose Florida Southern was influenced by an engaging and transparent virtual information session by our very best, Dr. Lew.
“Dr. Lew hosted the session, she answered all of my questions, and she was very friendly and honest,” she recalls. “The last deciding factor was that the in-person classes are only one day a week, which works perfectly for me as a commuter from Mascotte, Florida.”
The faculty support Brianna has gained has helped her feel confident and cared for throughout her journey. She detailed the dedication of the staff in their willingness to meet with students outside of class whether it pertained to class discussions or their personal work experiences.
“They hold extra Zoom meetings, office hours, and respond quickly to emails. They even help with internships, job applications, and scholarship opportunities.”
Brianna typically starts her academic day around midday, checking emails, updating her planner, and reviewing priorities. She spaces out her study sessions with quick walks to stay energized. On class days, she commutes to campus in the evening and values the interactive, applied nature of the lessons.
“Our professors teach a topic and then immediately have us apply it in class,” she explains. “It makes everything more practical and relevant to what we’ll experience in the field.”
With clear goals and a passion for improving the workplace through research, teaching, and advocacy, Brianna is on a purposeful path forward. Thanks to the flexibility of the MSIO program and the commitment of her professors, she’s gaining both the academic and personal tools she needs to thrive.
